World Sleep Day 13th March

Picture

SLEEP BETTER, LIVE BETTER
In a culture of overwork that doesn't encourage rest, World Sleep Day is a gentle reminder of the importance of regular sleep.

During sleep, muscles relax, heart rate and blood pressure drops and the body has an opportunity to self repair. The brain also uses sleep time to process learning, restore and repair neurons and clear toxins. Research suggests that napping can enhance brain size and increase productivity! However, lack of sleep may have harmful effects on our wellbeing.

Reflexology for improved sleep
Recent research by Huang et al (2020) suggested that foot reflexology produced significant improvements in sleep disturbances. Foot reflexology was concluded to be a non-invasive and convenient intervention and that regularly receiving foot reflexology can be considered complementary therapy to improve the sleep quality of adults with sleep disturbances.

How does reflexology help?
General reflexology sessions promote deep relaxation. Reflexologists can focus on specific reflexes to enhance the effect. These include the hypothalamus and pineal glands, which influence the circadian rhythm and melatonin levels. The chest/lungs/diaphragm reflexes to support general relaxation and circulation. The spine and brain to calm the nervous system. Chinese acupressure points may also be used.

New therapies
I am excited to bring to you two new therapies to enhance calm and relaxation, these are:
Hot stone reflexology
This 60 minute treatment involves incorporating the use of heated, smooth stones to massage the lower legs and reflex points on the feet.  Benefits include deeper relaxation, with heat penetrating deeper into the muscle and tissue.  A sense of calm and reduced stress.  A perfect treatment for the colder months ahead.

Singing bowls
I am delighted to bring to you something a little bit different.  Sound healing/use of singing bowls is believed to be effective at reducing stress and enables deeper levels of relaxation and self healing.  This therapy is offered for 5-10 minutes at the beginning or end of any booked treatment.  You can request it when booking online (in the notes) or just let me know on your arrival.

Wishing you a very happy and peaceful festive season.  Thank you for supporting Jamieson Reflexology.
