Evidence of reflexology techniques date back to ancient times in India, Egypt, Asia, Tibet, Japan and China. It is believed these practices were spread to the West by the Italian explorer Marco Polo around 1300. In 1940s USA, Eunice Ingham developed the foot map and is thought to be the pioneer of modern day reflexology.
