Complementary therapies for cancer careI have always had an interest in natural health and well being, however it was after my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer that I realised the effect that complementary therapies can have in bringing relief at such a physically and emotionally challenging time.
At this time I was qualified in reiki only. I carried out reiki as often as possible for my mum and during the sessions she was able to relax, switch off from all the fear and worry, feel safe and supported and 'just be'. She also noticed that during the session her pain lessened and this lasted for an hour or so afterwards. I lost my mum in 2011 and my gran, also to lung cancer in 2016. Following this I decided to study reflexology and massage and qualified with a Diploma in 2019. I was drawn to expand my skills further as I feel strongly about helping others who have a cancer diagnosis. I recently completed a Complementary Therapies for Cancer Care course with Butterfly Touch Therapies. This course is accredited by the Association of Reflexologists and the Federation of Holistic Therapies. In the course I have learned how to adapt my reflexology, massage and reiki treatments to suit the individual and their needs whether it be after receiving a diagnosis, when going through treatment/surgery or during recovery. The benefits or complementary therapies are:
I also worked with the Circle of Comfort providing holistic therapies to those who are living with the side effects of cancer, multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease. |
